MULTI-CHEM CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING

OF SHAFTER LOCATION

SHAFTER, Calif. (April 1, 2010) - Multi-Chem®, a global provider of oilfield production chemicals, celebrated the grand opening of its new West Coast location in Shafter, Ca. on Wednesday, announced Harold Johnson, Vice President of Global Business Development.

Multi-Chem hosted over 100 people at the grand opening event held at the new facility on Wednesday, which included lunch, tours of the laboratory and an address from Multi-Chem President and Chief Executive Officer, James Archer.

The facility consists of 3,000 sq ft of office space, a 1,600-sq-ft laboratory and a 4-acre storage yard.  It will provide service, sales support, technical analysis and delivery of specialty production chemicals for the oil and gas industry throughout Kern, San Luis Obispo, Tulare, Kings, Ventura, Los Angeles, Fresno, Merced and Madera counties, the largest producing area in California. The Shafter office is the third Multi-Chem location on the West Coast. Other offices, laboratories, blend plants and warehouses are located in Ventura and Meridian.

The facility’s operations will be managed by Regional Operations Manager, Mark Wade, who has over 25 years of industry experience in production chemicals within California.

According to Wade, Multi-Chem strategically places offices within a 100-mile radius of its customers’ fields to provide focused local service.

“Superior local service is one of Multi-Chem’s fundamental objectives so that we can provide technical analysis and product support that is specific to the area and the technical challenges our customers are facing,” Wade said.

Benefits

  • Increasing water injection rate for disposal or enhanced production
  • Increase production rate of produced fluids
  • Increase effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing

Symptoms

  • Water flow parameters produce Reynolds Numbers in excess of 2500
  • Pressure required for increased flow increases faster than flow rate produced

Root Cause

When fluid is forced to flow in a pipe, the center flows faster than the sides, which rub on the wall. Above a critical velocity, the center flows so much faster it is sucked back to the side by the vacuum causing vortex turbulence in the center of the pipe which consumes much of the energy that would otherwise go into moving the fluid forward.

Solutions

Friction or drag reducers allow water in turbulent flow to flow faster or with less pressure applied by reducing the turbulence and recapturing the energy that would have been lost. Up to 70% increases in flow or 40% decreases in pressure can be achieved, though the effect is gradually lost with flow. Reduced turbulence also reduces erosion. Multi-Chem offers a variety of friction reduction polymers for different types of water and conditions. Multi-Chem performs an extensive on-site evaluation of the system to select the product that best fits the requirements of that specific application.

Next Steps

How can you determine if Multi-Chem friction reducers can help you?

The following information will help Multi-Chem to determine the proper treatment method for your production challenge:

  • Production data
  • Temperature profiles
  • Pressure profiles
  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in water
  • Residence time of fluids in flow
  • Process diagram
  • Current treatment regime
